Elevé par son père dans une bourgade reculée, Oklahoma Boy mène une existence simple, faite de contrition et de piété. L'éducation religieuse sévère et fanatique de son père le pousse à toujours plus de renoncements et de sacrifices, dans l'espoir de trouver le Salut.
Peu à peu isolé de ses camarades, il va cependant découvrir que l'horreur s'insinue partout, y compris là où on l'attend le moins.
En posant dès les premières pages une ambiance dense et atypique, Thomas Gilbert nous embarque malgré nous et sans détour dans une épopée redneckienne hallucinée qui, sans jamais y répondre, semble inlassablement poser la question : faut-il tendre l'autre joue ?
